There has to be serious doubts about the quality of some of the driving instructors who are teaching our kids to drive when I see the stupidity and total lack of thought by some drivers on our roads. Maybe it’s not all the instructors fault because an idiot will always be an idiot. I took a video this morning on my Hewlett Packard hpf210 full hi definition dash camera which tells a story, there is really no need for any words from me but here goes anyway.
I was on my way to work this morning and was almost taken out by a P Plater blasting through a “Give Way” sign, if it wasn’t so serious it would have been almost comical. He came out of the Ox Tavern car park, turned left with no indication that a left turn was what he intended to do. He then put on speed to cut in front of me, almost rolled his car when he fishtailed across two lanes before then turning left from the 2nd lane onto the M1 on ramp, again without any indication of his intention, man what a goose. The driver was very lucky that I was only travelling at 30 kph, any faster and we were both goners, he was also lucky there was no other cars in the 2nd or 3rd lanes.
Why was he in such a hurry where he felt the need to put others at risk? I followed him onto the M1 then cruised passed him as he was stuck in the left lane behind another car so his haste and stupidity got him no where.
Note: Change the cog to Full HD on the video.
I travel the M1 everyday, sometimes 4 to 6 times a day and it is no longer a pleasant driving experience. Even one token sign saying “Keep Left Unless Overtaking” might make a small difference but very few people are considerate of others and stay in the left lanes, many just sit in the 3rd and 4th lane without a care in the world. Often you make better progress in the far left lane and try merging onto the Motorway. There are still some people who will move over to let you merge but many drivers just sit there and will not budge, even if there is no vehicles beside them.
The dash camera doesn’t lie, it was a close call this morning and it is a regular experience and with the lack of quality instructors out there, I despair that anything will change in the near future.
Let’s get proactive with safe driving, what my car camera captured this morning does not belong in the same sentence as the word “safe”, the driver of the other car and the rest of us were lucky the road was dry.
I would welcome any suggestions on what could be done to improve the traffic flow on the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Most afternoons it is very slow in peak hour and on Friday afternoon it is always a car park opposite Dream World and South of Oxenford.
If anyone has any good feedback on what would help free up the M1, please send an email to [email protected] and I will put your suggestions on this site, the same goes for any road in any state.
